Haven Center
HAVEN CENTER is a faith-based nonprofit social service agency, providing mental health and wellness programs. We offer professional counseling, coaching and classes to residents in East Central MN. Clientele includes individuals, couples and families of all age ranges.
The full-spectrum of services means that Haven Center does counseling, and a whole lot more. A companion to counseling is psychotherapy, which tends to be more in-depth and long-term. Psychotherapy provides a healing experience for wounds of the "psyche"-the mind, spirit and emotions. Typically these wounds
are caused by abuse, abandonment, betrayal, grief or trauma. Veterans, in particular, may need assistance in recovering from combat experiences.
Counseling has more to do with problem-solving, and finding points of intervention to deal with issues. Clients come to Haven Center for help with marriage and parenting, as well as other relationships. Sometimes they struggle with addictions or co-dependency. Or perhaps they have a disability such as ADHD or OCD. Often, anxiety and depression accompany the problems they face.
While psychotherapy focuses primarily on the past, and counseling in the present, coaching focuses on the future. The coach works with the client to set realistic goals, develop a plan to reach them, and then holds the client accountable until success is achieved.
